Google to hold 29 October event

Google sent out press invitations today that included a colourful New York skyline (complete with the Brooklyn Bridge), and a simple tagline that said: "The playground is open".

Scheduled for 29 October at 10am ET (30 October at 1am AEDST), the press conference will be held at Basketball City in New York. It will be on the same day that Microsoft plans its Windows Phone 8 launch.

Though few details were given, we anticipate that the event will include news about Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates and Google's new line of Nexus phones.

In addition, the "playground" reference could be a nod to news about Google's Play store, and the invitation design looks awfully similar to the header currently seen on Google Now, which is a Jelly Bean feature.

Fortunately, for those of you who didn't get the invite, the whole event will be streamed live on Youtube, and you can bet that CNET will cover it.

But would like to see the features of the store to be opened up globally.. i.e. music
