Is dad continually late because he's lost? Are mum and dad bickering constantly about whether she meant that left or the other left? If so, we think you know what you should get dad for Father's Day. And, no, we're not thinking about a new wife...
At AU$349 retail it may cost a little more than other entry-level units, but the TomTom One 140 is well worth the extra dosh. The One 140's compact form allows for easy storage. Users can also correct any mapping mistakes they see and, with Map Share, corrections can also be shared with and downloaded from other TomTom users.
Dads who have to slug it through peak hour may appreciate the Navman MY50T, which at AU$399 RRP is the cheapest portable nav device available with traffic messaging. It also sports a larger than normal 4.7-inch touchscreen.
If 300 clams is too much and dad already has an iPhone, then one of the new set of iPhone sat nav apps may be more the go. Sygic Mobile Maps, Navigon MobileNavigator and TomTom for iPhone each retail for AU$100 or less on the App Store, with the cheapest, Sygic's Mobile Maps, featuring both Aussie and NZ maps.
Last but not least, Navigon's 4350 max makes a good case for itself with a good looking body and the best Bluetooth hands-free we've sampled in a while. Priced at a very reasonable AU$399, it would be at the head of this list were it not for a swag of minor niggles.
