Hack Attack: how to make a cheap DIY ring flash

About The Author

Lexy spent her formative years taking a lot of photos and dreaming in technicolour. Nothing much has changed now she's covering all things photography related for CNET.

Welcome to Hack Attack, where we take a light-hearted look at building your own photographic tools on the cheap.

Photography is an expensive hobby. With new toys being released all the time to make you lust after pricey photo gear, Hack Attack provides the wallet-friendly version of doing it yourself. Over the coming weeks, you'll be able to watch the projects grow in complexity, and possibly see some epic DIY fails along the way.

Use a ring flash to add a touch of glamour to your photography. Can't afford the real deal? Here is how to make your own for cheap. You will need:

  • A round box (I used a container made for decoupage from a craft store)

  • Aluminium foil

  • Balsa wood

  • Cutting knife

  • Glue

  • Gaffer tape.

There's no link (for the DIY Ring Flash) except to a page of similar DIY photography hints (where this one is also listed) and you click that to come back here. http://www.cnet.com.au/hack-attack-how-to-make-a-cheap-diy-ring-flash-339342812.htm
