The G1X is a souped-up compact camera from Canon, and packs all the functionality you could want into the venerable G series, with an extra-large sensor and compatibility with EOS accessories.
Here are some hands-on photos of the camera on the floor at CES 2012 from our colleagues at CNET. Click here to read our preview.

The G1 X's body design is quite similar to the G12's, though slightly bigger and heavier. While there's a lot to like in the camera's specs, especially the large sensor, the lens looks a bit disappointing; at f/2.8, the aperture doesn't start out very wide, and it gets pretty narrow at a not-terribly-long focal length of f/5.8. Plus, while that knurled ring around the lens looks like it'd be great for focusing or zooming, it's just there for show.

At the side, there's a chunky grip that's easy to grab onto, but it's definitely bigger than the G12.

Like the G12, the G1 X has dials within dials — in this case, a mode dial circumscribed by an exposure-compensation dial — and hotshoe. The flash seems surprisingly small for such a large camera, though.

The large articulated LCD is similar to that found on the EOS 600D SLR.

The rear controls are basically the same as on the G12, though laid out differently, and it has a larger thumb rest and direct-record button for video capture.
