The new action/adventure game Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban -- based on the book and the movie -- will appeal to both the young and the young once.
As all fans know, this is the movie where Sirius Black enters the scene -- Black is the prisoner who had something to do with the death of Harry's parents and he is out to put Harry six feet under as well. You will need to solve puzzles and uncover secrets to know why Black is after Harry.
Like previous versions, the gameplay is fairly easy however there is an interesting update -- the player is now able to shift from Harry, Ron and Hermione during the game. All three characters have different powers and capabilities that will be needed as the game goes on. For instance, only Harry has the athletic capacity to climb ropes and leap across great gaps. Ron is best for spotting hidden doorways and discovering things. Hermione, on the other hand, can wiggle into small spaces that the boys can't fit into.
It is easy to know when players should shift from one character to another since the instructions and hints on what to do are pretty obvious. There are times when only one or two characters are needed depending on the situation, so don't feel bad if Ron can't climb the rope and Harry could, it simply means Harry is supposed to do the challenge alone.
The opening scene starts with Harry, Ron and Hermione in the Hogwarts Express train, on their way to their third year in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. The first part is simple enough to allow the player to get used to the controls while fighting the Malfoy boy's gang. However, this is also where you first encounter the Dementors, the Azkaban prison's creepy ghostly guards, who try to suck Harry's life out of him unless you can help it.
After Harry retrieves the Marauders Map, near the beginning of the game, the three use it to roam around the school searching for clues and trying to figure out Black's mystery.
All three characters can do basic magic spells like Flipendo, a knockback spell, but there are ones that only certain characters can do. For example, Ron can do the Lumos spells which shines light to enemies or things. Hermione can do the Glacius spell to freeze enemies and she can also repair things and turn statues into dragons. Harry can summon Hedwig and use the pet bird to get floating parcels, and he can also fly the Hippogriff (a half horse half Griffin creature) around the towers of the school. The regular platforming, exploring, solving puzzles, and wand wagging is still present in the game.
