2007: The year that 1080p broke. After years of tentative steps, consumers and manufacturers alike finally got the gist of high definition and what it could do.
But home theatre doesn't begin and end with HD -- the screen and its resolution is only one part of the equation. A home theatre is the sum of its parts, so here we present the best screens, projectors, amps and other components that impressed us this year. (And especially in the case of the Pioneer plasma, it doesn't necessarily have to be 1080p.)
The products below aren't necessarily the highest scoring in their categories, but they represent current models with a good mix of features and performance for the price.
Pioneer PDP-508XDA 
The Pioneer PDP-508XDA is without a doubt one of the best televisions ever released, with excellent black levels and oodles of detail.

The Sony KDL46XBR is an excellent example of the LCD art, and includes up-to-date -- and working! -- features, and sumptuous styling.
JVC DLA-HD1
JVC's DLA-HD1 is a ground-breaking projector that beams out images with extremely natural colours and black levels. That said, it's not quite as sharp or as bright as some of its cheaper rivals.
Epson EMP-TW1000
It may lack luxury functions, extended connectivity and the inky blacks of pricier models, but this is well offset by beautiful HD pictures, extended lens shift and ultra-short throw capabilities.
Sony PlayStation 3 (40GB)

Samsung HT-TXQ120T
The Samsung HT-TXQ120 is a rock solid audio system that rivals component-level kits in sound quality. This, however, is not the case for the video department with its just above-average visuals.

Marantz DV6001
