We were recently hit by Facebook's audio notifications, a feature being rolled out since late last year. Here's how to turn the little blighters off.

So there you are, headphones on, enjoying a spot of Eine kleine Nachtmusik, when "Bloop!" You notice the red number on your Facebook notifications and, putting two and two together, realise that the social network is now making noises to let you know whenever anything happens.

Perhaps that's okay with you. Perhaps, however, you think it's really gosh-darned annoying.

Here's how to turn it off.

First, click the tiny gear icon in the top right corner and go to Account settings.

Now, on the left-hand side, click on Notifications.

The top menu should be: "How you get notifications". Sounds are enabled by default. Click "View" to the right of "On Facebook".

You should see the option "Play a sound when each new notification is received". Uncheck the box to the left of it, then hit "Save changes".

That's it! Welcome to your once-again blissfully quiet Facebook experience.
