HP Photosmart 2575

By on 29 November 2005

The HP Photosmart 2575 All-in-One doesn't have the bells and whistles of a good-looking multifunction printer, but it has all the necessary features for use at home or in a small office.

User rating:6.8
  • RRP: AU$299.00

Upside
You can print, scan and copy on this new Photosmart that uses HP's Vivera ink cartridges. This printer comes with a host of features that should please any home or small office users. The built-in 2.5-inch colour LCD panel allows you to select, preview and edit your photos before printing them out. There are several one-touch easy access buttons for the printer's main functions just below the screen.

The Photosmart 2575 All-in-One is PictBridge compatible so you can print directly from your digital camera. It also has an onboard card reader if you don't have a USB cable to connect to the unit.

For office users, this All-in-One is Ethernet-ready and allows you to share the printer with up to five computers.

Downside
Turn your eyes away if you are looking for an All-in-One with a fanciful design -- the Photosmart 2575 is going to bore you. Although you can share this printer with up to five computers -- which should suffice for the home user -- corporate workers may find this limit stifling for future company expansion.

Outlook
While the Photosmart 2575 All-in-One offers most features a home user will appreciate, be prepared to fork out more money for HP's dedicated photo paper if you wish to optimise the quality of your image printouts.

    As Above History

    • Good: Have now taken the advice of another consumer on this site who suggest a book underneath to tilt back printer and instructions to reset. If it works, I'll send another report in the cons section.
    • Bad: Considering this printer worked reasonably for a while will hold back on this remark and wait to see if I succeed to get it working again. One last try, before I throw it out the window.

Having always bought HP and been satisfied, I upgraded to this 2575 Photosmart. Worked well for two years. Cartridges incredibly expensive, run out prematurely. Lately all sorts of inaccurate print errors indicating jams, no paper in tray, ink cartridge problem, when the ink is new, has worked well for a week, then the printer does not recognise or does not configure. Bought two more cartridges, got one good print and then only the top half of the line worked. Should I be thankful for small mercies?!

    • Good: Good print quality, lot of functions
    • Bad: 1) Many errors when working on lan
      2) Sometimes doesn't recognizes usb keys
      3) After few times stopped working. It doesn't work even after resetting (all kind of resets).
4)Lot of ink waste to clean cartridges.

It looked like a very good printer but...

    • Good: It's response time is fantastic, even out of standby it will start printing within a few seconds.
    • Bad: The onboard photo tools are a bit basic. And I have had to reinstall the software once or twice.

I must have been lucky, as I hav'nt had any of the paper feed problems mentioned here. I installed it in 2006 as part of a network with 4 computers (one is now vista). I like it much better than my C6180, which apart from it's ADF is a load of crap

    • Good: prints quickly
    • Bad: would have expected it to last ALOT longer for what I paid for it; expensive ink; lots of paper jams; loves picking up extra paper.

I bought this printer when I was starting uni 2 1/2 years ago - I hate it now! HP had such a good reputation I thought I was making a good decision. I've had all the problems everyone else has had, and HP customer service is worse than the actual product! The ink is ridiculously priced also (didn't think to check that before I bought the printer) I will never buy an HP product again, just sucks that I have to keep it now at least until uni is finished 'cause I can't afford another one! I agree with kysg1 - HP should give our money back! It would actually make good business sense - that way they might even entice a few customers back by at least SEEMING to care!

    • Good: LAN, Card reader, good print quality, fast.
    • Bad: Paper feed problems ruin the whole thing!

Would have been a very nice printer/AIO if the paper feed would work properly. It's not satisfied with one paper at a time, and very often drags in 2-3 papers at once. Has wasted ALOT of paper trying to do manual double sided printing with this one. Stay away! Don't buy this! Never again HP in any form on my part!

I've had this printer less than two years and it no longer works at all. The light blinks but it won't turn on, then won't turn off. Piece of junk.

    • Good: Print CDs
    • Bad: Prints only a few CDs before trashing out

Only used the printer to print CDs - never had a sheet of paper near it but one day it reported paper jam error. Cannot clear the error, so the printer is now totally useless.

    • Good: Cheap
    • Bad: A nightmare to navigate the many features and sofware. Just make it simple....

Megabytes of useless software get loaded. If only HP concentrated on getting the drivers sorted and ditched all the stuff trying to connect to the internet all the time.

I have this very same printer and if you read the instruction manual before you start messing arround everything should work perfectly first time.
