Someone's finally done it — a Geiger counter styled after the art of HR Giger is in the world.

Don't know who he is? Just go watch Alien again. Or Prometheus. His disturbingly dark brand of surrealism mixes the organic and the mechanical to a magnificently disconcerting effect.

When Phil Plait, author of Discover magazine's Bad Astronomy blog, tweeted, "If I ever go to an alien planet, I'm bringing a Geiger counter," something clicked in the mind of Mad Art Lab's Steve D.

A plastic half-scale human skeleton, a Geiger counter kit from Adafruit, some flexible conduit, glue and some dark metallic paint resulted in the device seen above, with the red indicator LED at the base of the skull.
