HTC's Shift is yet another UMPC — and another white elephant to add to the pile.

Hmmm great device but not for business purposes. I was really disappointed when my first laptop makes a trouble with battery timing. Its battery timing is really low. For its good performance you may always plugged in its adapter. Its really techtalks. I hear many times about its performance but when i bought it and use it. Its only a junk of lake means not support any special feature like tech talk. My purpose is to bought it only use of tech talks but its disappointed me too much.
- Good: Performance is not bad for using vista.
- Bad: Can't support many useful features.

The device work pretty good. the battery life is expected while its mini laltop UMPC. hope they will realese a higher last battery. and i dont know how could you be an IT analyst and compare it to iPhone, blackberry!!
this is an UMPC not a normal phone with different OS!- Good: -sleek design.
-best among UMPC comparing to the size and functionality.
-Vista runs very smooth with no freezing.
-friendly to navigate. - Bad: -Pricey. i think it will drop down like 20% within a month or so.
-Battery life should be increased or as Morituri suggested, "Carry another one on the go"
-SnapVue is useless for me while it lacks many functionality of the WM vrsion. its like a smaller version of it but kinda useless specially that you can not connect using your WIFI. you have to connecct using the other connection options such as 3G.
- Good: -sleek design.

I bought the HP notebook and found the short Right Shift Key to be annoying.
I found a solution in my blog here.
http://erickirkhuff.com/?cat=12- Good: I like the notebook in general
- Bad: keyboard and battery life. Well duah...it is a 17". I did not like the glare shinny screen.

I just bought this unit and indeed I'm typing my comment on an HTC Shift!
The prejudiced commentator from CNET completely misses the point.
The ASUS has a larger form factor w/o actually offering a better screen display for it.
And once yu attach its battery back, the weight of the unit turns it into a brick in every piece of luggage.
The Shift's battery pack is small enough to carry a spare and once you removed HTC's silly block on the built in WM6 module, you've got a computer that can run for days on a single charge.
And I'd like to challenge anyone to work on an Excel spreadsheet or a PowerPoint presentation on an iPhone or a BlackBerry.
Get real man, this unit is perfect for the real road warrior who doesn't want to drag his primary (and much more expensive) "big daddy" laptop to every short field trip, but still needs to be prepared for any occasion.
And if you buy the unlocked SIM version, then you can get online everywhere in this world, where there is GSM/GPRS cell phone service.
Now try that with the ASUS Eee!
PS: That comment about "no man will touch that girly pouch" shows the author's juvenile state of mind.
I am a real man even so I touched that pouch many times by now.
What teenager wrote that silly article?- Good: Smooth design, cool looks and fast operations.
Crisp display, good mechanics and easy configuration. - Bad: WM6 (Shifft) mode initially crippled for no good reason. Origami really sucks and adds nothing to the unit - uninstall it ASAP.
The WiFi antenna is a bit weak, specially when the unit's screen is collapsed down.
Also, in pure Vista mode the battery life is really not that impressive.
So either unlock the power of the WM6 module or take a spare battery with you.
- Good: Smooth design, cool looks and fast operations.

Functional as a laptop replacement, with always on connectivity.
- Good: A mini laptop running Vista. Good size for screen and keyboard.
- Bad: Price too deep.
