HTC Touch HD
By Joseph Hanlon on 22 January 2009
The Touch HD is a fantastic phone, if you can afford one. It out-performs every HTC phone previously and looks fantastic doing it.

- Good: Everything
Best phone I have ever owned. Got spb tv, resco radio etc on it and couldn't ask for more. Um, a flash would be nice.

- Good: i like almost everything
- Bad: battery life, slow music, slow camera, no flash
I have been living with this phone for a couple of months now and I love it.
User - If you want to rotate the screen in every application just run the gyrator app (it's free - although it does slow the boot up process).
Hillsy - The volume rocker does NOT work when the phone is locked (screen blank) so that is not a problem.
The problem with the battery is that with heavy use (playing sudoku non stop) it can give up after less than 1 day (unplug it in the morning and plug it back in before I need to go to bed). Although with almost no use (only phone) it lasted more than 2 days.
I bought mine on ebay and it came from asia so it was already unlocked. Settings for the mms and data to work had to be updated via the network (phone call to virgin and they were able to update it remotely).
Being wimo there are lots of apps available as well as lots of pirated ones too. I don't really have an opinion on the operating systems (wimo v android v iphone v symbian).
I don't have any trouble with the qwerty keyboard. Sometimes the transcriber can't recognise my handwriting when using the stylus but if I slow down my scribbling it works better. Those are the only input methods I use so I don't know about how the others perform.
I uploaded about 4GB of music to the card and when I start the music player on the touch flo it takes a while (5-8s) to load which is surprisingly annoying.
I had the music playing while tomtom navigator was running via the car stereo and there was no problem with that - directions and music from the one device.
An mp3 ringtone was no problem but I found the only way to get a song as a message tone was to convert the format to wma (seems weird to me that mp3 will work for the ring but not the message).
I don't use the email client that it comes with as I only use gmail and there is an app from google for that which works well (but I don't use it often as I am at home most of the time and just use my computer).
The camera can be slow (althought it seems ok in decent light levels) but I don't use it often so that doesn't annoy me - but the lack of a flash does.
Mine arrived with the upgraded ROM that I found people talking about on the web so I never experienced the problems people were complaining about before it came out.
One wish is that it used a standard mini usb plug instead of the one HTC supply.
Well thats what I have to say after a few months.
Hope it helps. -

- Good: BIG SCREEN
- Bad: MY BATTERY ONLY LAST'S SEVEN OR SO HOURS
HERE'S AN INTERESTING FEATURE ???? AS THE CUST CARE LADY PUT IT EVEN IF THE PHONE IS LOCKED THE VOLUME CONTROL ON THE SIDE OF THE PHONE TURNS ITSELF TO SILENT IN YOUR HANDBAG OR POCKET...SO YOU WON'T ACTUALLY HEAR YOUR PHONE????? CAN SOMEONE PLASE EXPLAIN HOW THAT IS A FEATURE OR WHAT I'M DOING WRONG??

- Good: the screen lock allows 3/4 days of battery with casual/moderate use, camera is ok, great for internet surfing
- Bad: qwerty DOESNT switch when you rotate screen, so its always cramped. you cant sort contacts in group.. just cant. you can export contacts to SIM but not the other way round. syncing withoutlook contacts is a nightmare, the windows mobile system is crap.. nokia and lg's are far more functional and user friendly

- Good: Good looking phone with lots of potential
- Bad: Battery life, slow, not responsive, OS is rubish
Hardware wise this is a fantastic phone. It's biggest failure is Windose which is an absolute piece of rubbish. It does not respond to inputs everything is slow just like windose desktops. The user interface looks like a desktop and I agree with Koos that this does not work for a phone. A mobile device needs a proper engineered software interface and not a copy of a desktop especially with a touch interface. The software on this phone is utter rubbish. This phone would be superb if it can run Android OS as on the HTC Dream Google phone. I can't wait to get rid of this phone or load Android if it becomes available for this model.

- Good: Looks nice
- Bad: Extremely sluggish doing most things, awkward operation, battery life
One of the biggest problems is that a MS Desktop interface does not work for a mobile device. Not advisable to buy this phone. I got rid of mine after one month.
