JVC's CMOS-based Everio GZ-HD40 finally offers AVCHD recording, but a few shortcomings keep us from giving it a full recommendation.

  • Good: Excellent Picture-Still happy

  Indoor recording excellent on mine. Bhatty try to increase the lighting in the room or adjust the camcorders settings.In particular the white balance,etc.

  • Good: Good Quality video
  • Bad: Hard to use softare and burn dvd, indoor shooting on automatic mood is Bad

  • Good: big sensor, great low light performance, good build quality

  I liked this camera when i was looking at it on my HD Panel, the colours seemed very accurate and low light performance was impressive!
  The accessory shoe on top is great because it's a standard show with a 3.5mm jack so i can easily plug in my Rode Microphone

  Nice Camcorder,great picture and easy to use. I like the software, it makes the camcorder more fun.The video quality is very good.The stills look pretty good too.

  I like the fact that you can choose between MPEG 2 and AVCHD recordings.MPEG 2 looks so good because there is less compression than AVCHD. However for compatibility reasons I would use AVCHD.

  Thanks Smithy. Looks like I have all 3 options with the software. I can therefore make DVDs, AVCHD discs and Blu Ray.

  Yes it does as long as you have a Blu ray burner. If not then create AVCHD discs using normal DVd discs.

  I saw this on special at Myers for only $999. What a bargain. I've just taken it out of the box and found the picture quality to be pretty awesome, even indoors. The camcorder was also easy to use because I'm not all that techy.The software is heaps of fun too.
