Kaspersky Internet Security 2009

By Robert Vamosi on 20 November 2008

Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 provides adequate protection, but the program itself could use some work in telling the user what's going on.

    • Good: Excellent antivirus that has higher detection rate than any other vendor
    • Bad: Nothing

This review hasn't been written very well, antivirus software shouldnt be judged only by its scan speeds but on its overall detection rate and stability certainly thats the reason why you are installing an antivirus so you can be sure that your system is being protected from as much malware as possible and also limiting the operation of unknown malwarae. I argue that kaspersky is the best antivirus your money can buy. I have had alot of experience with Norton and i can tell you thats its awfully slow to boot up and requires alot more resources to run than kaspersky ofcourse also mensioning that its doesnt detect as much malware compared with kaspersky. I suggest that the author should stop critizing kaspersky and favouring other large vendors, rather focus on the overall protection performance from known and unknown threats.

    • Good: Good Value, Actually scans EXE files.(Unlike Norton)
    • Bad: Hogs CPU on scans.(Happens on all Anti-virus programs anyway)

KIS 2009 blocks viruses and trojans really effeciently. Queries for updates use very little internet data. But if you have a slow computer, don't bother!

    • Good: Default installation choices are well considered, save a lot of trouble plus second thoughts about installing certain options. You can tell the company put a lot of thought into the customer without compromising technical knowhow. This (default) isn't always the best choice with other brand internet security products. But, the application is very flexible where you want it to be, too.
    • Bad: Can be expensive.

This is a solid product for me. I just go with the default choices during installation and I have no problems whatsoever. My machine runs much more smoothly and quickly compared to when I've had other products, as well as with less interaction and doubts. I've also noticed I seem to be more invisible on the internet by the advertisements I see.

It's best AV with amazing features

    • Bad: big hog
      paranoiac
interface for me is not ideal

I saw an advertisement and decided to install KIS 2009. I realized very big slow down in work and system startup was a nightmare. I also think that this version is really paranoic about threats and malware in nearly everything (false positives). My clean computer with XP SP3 (2Gb RAM, Intel 2GHz) worked very well before it. :(
I switched to well-known vendor and have no problems.

    • Good: Seems fast and not bloated
    • Bad: I'd agree your comment re lack of some features

I much enjoyed in 2008 KIS version 7.0 and am about to upgrade to 2009. Your article in Cons says KIS "Leaves behind registry file after uninstall". but in article you mention the left behind as AVG which KIS then provided a tool to remove. So do you really mean that KIS left behind AVG?
