Kickstarter of the week: Form 1

3D printing is a great idea and all, but what if you could do it in high definition?

Home 3D printers are something we all lust after, but what we can afford at the present time is usually the cheaper models — which might have a few issues here and there, mainly with the quality of the prints.

Form 1, by Formlabs at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is a high-quality 3D printer that allows you professional-quality printing; and by professional quality, we mean precision. According to the Kickstarter page, the Form 1 3D printer can print layers as thin as 25 microns (0.0025 centimetres), with features as small as 300 microns (0.03 centimetres) and at a size of 125x125x165 millimetres — and if the images are anything to go by, it is without the bubbles, bumps and extra filaments that you often find on lower-cost 3D printers.

For $2999 (US$2699 in the US and Canada), you get the printer, the software required to design your objects, one litre of liquid printing material (resin) and the Form Finish Kit, which is a set of tools that allows you to clean up the final product after printing.

Take a look for yourself in the video below, and head over to the Form 1 Kickstarter page for more information.
