The Fujitsu T1010 has tablet features and a somewhat striking price point, but the rest of the package feels a bit lifeless.
While everyone scrambles for the latest low-spec netbook, the DV7 takes the opposite route, promoting itself as the ultimate entertainment notebook. It's almost right, too.
A premium netbook may sound like an oxymoron, but that is precisely what the Asus Eee PC S101 delivers with its stunning design and relative affordability.
The sleek design and good performance of the HP Pavilion dv5-1050tx makes it a solid contender, but don't plan on removing the power cord any time soon.
It may not be the sexiest notebook in town, but Asus' 14.1-inch laptop is Centrino 2 certified, and sports some excellent multimedia capabilities.

I actually went to the Sydney City Myer store on December 1st to get one. I think it was the sheer tinyness of the asus, and their understated, manga-ish design aesthetics which pushed me over the edge to getting one. Having used for a little over a day, I now understand the pricepoint - the operating system is functional, but for a computer that is meant to be for kids and beginners, there are some UI quirks ( and times when it wouldn't respond to shortcut keys), that hopefully gets dealt with with future updates. Nonetheless, i think its a brilliant laptop for students, in terms of price, features and portability. I would not be suprised to see the eee pc becoming ubiquitous at uni campuses.

I didn't see one over the weekend at Myer in my district and I since found out only the city Myer has it. From what I read on eeeuser.com though about the product being unable to be upgraded easily and having some issues among the user community, I am glad I did not find it at my store.

Purchased one yesterday. Easily upgraded memory by shop, can add modem card if rq. Best to install the patch that allows full acces to the machine. Very nicely engineered.

Why are some of you complaining about lack of modem card. This is a laptop designed for the wireless world, not 90's dial-up. Get with the times, you but a new laptop, low end, you don't get the same backwards compatibility as you would a normal laptop.
