The public loves tiny notebooks. Pioneered by Asus with the EeePC 701, everyone's been getting in on the game — and if Computex this year is any indication, there's many more to come.
For such tiny, affordable laptops, the quality is quite stunning amongst competitors — hence the huge array of Editor's Choice awards here! Each has its quirks though, so we suggest you read the full reviews to find out which one is right for you.
Now that the MSI Wind and EeePC 1000H are on the shelves, Australia has almost completed its netbook collection; only Dell's E and E Slim have yet to arrive.
ASUS EeePC 1000H
The Eee PC 1000 is a fabulous machine. It precariously straddles the line between netbook and ultraportable, but it's well equipped, well designed and great for those who need a laptop on the move.
MSI Wind
This is one of the best mini laptops so far -- it's comfortable to use, has a good display and it's affordable.
Acer Aspire One
The Acer Aspire One is better than most netbooks. It's fantastic for anyone who wants a small, cheap machine on which to type and surf the Web. However, its battery life lets it down slightly.
Asus EeePC 901
The Eee is now faster, looks nicer, and has better battery life. It's also heavier and the keyboard is still too small, but we like it. A lot.
Asus EeePC 701
The EeePC isn't for everyone — in fact within about two seconds from picking it up you'll know if it's for you or not. For those it does appeal to, it's a brilliant little thing that fills a much lamented gap.
HP 2133 Mini-Note
Despite an underpowered CPU, the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC offers the best balance of small size, comfort, and functionality we've seen in a mini-notebook, making it fast a favourite for on-the-go use.
