The M40 boasts an impressive array of the latest notebook technologies, especially for those with a multimedia bent, although it could do with running a little quieter and cooler.

Screen damaged
Having done the homework I went ahead and purchased the M40. Since I am more into graphics related work, it was a perfect combination having large screen and a good graphics card. But when I came back home, I saw this burnt out pixel on the screen. I presume its called the black pixel. I am quite dissappointed with the fact that a fresh system was having a screen problem.I want to get a replacement for this system, I will have to follow it up.

Great Laptop
It is a great laptop with great capabilities but it sometimes crashes if you download too much crap onto it.

Good Overall
Extremely happy with the M40, although i did replace my 40Gb 4200RPM drive with an 80Gb 5400RPM from a 3rd party retailer as it was cheaper. Only problem I have is I can't get more than 2 hours battery life no matter what I do. According to toshiba specs I should be able to get 2.7 hours. Anyone else have this problem?

people envy my laptop
i looked around everywhere to find the best computer for the lowest price. the m40 was the choice i fell on and i'm glad i did. it plays all the best games and the screen's amazing. i was very impressed with the sound...who knew such sound can come from a laptop? i only have a couple complaints. first there's no serial or parallel port. i guess this is the new trend for new laptops, but it can be very annoying. finally, that nice high pitch noise other people have talked about has made its way to my left speaker. can't figure out the exact cause but after experimenting it seems to be a software issue because it can be stopped if any application that plays sound is turn on (even if the volume is turned to 0). i'm sure toshiba will fix it if i bring it in, but it's rather a pain to not have my laptop so i'll hold out for a while and keep winamp playing in the background with the volume off...
overall i give it an A.

Top notebook for the power user
Recently purchased one and can't find a fault with the thing! Perfectly runs video/DVDs, the speakers are OK as internal speakers can be, but external speakers are always better - but the speakers do the job.
Runs a number of games I threw at it, although I have yet to try some of the latest releases.
The quality of the screen is excellent, very clear and bright.
It has a dedicated graphics card and video memory that gives it extra graphics kick - its better than the GFX card on my desktop PC!
Overall, an excellent notebook for the user looking for a mid range to top end notebook.
