The Inspiron 6400 is a mid-range notebook with an entry-level price tag. It’ll handle most applications nicely, but it’s a little on the heavy side and isn’t suitable for extensive gaming.

I recently bought this laptop at a special price. After Much searching, this was a very good deal in my perpective
Pros: Just look at how much you get for the $1800 i paid: 1.83Gh Processor; 1GB RAM; 120GB HD and a free Wireless Router. I couldnt find anything that matched this.
Also, it is a very quite and long lasting lappy. Lasts really long... much longer than my dad's Toshiba Tecra (Dunno which model). Inspiron will last around 3 hours on full brightness.
The Media shortcut buttons are great! And the front speakers.
Cons: Very cheap styling and surface feel. I managed to scratch it on the 3rd day. The other guy is right, it wont cost dell much to upgrade this.
Another thing is that you will need to lighten yourself by a further $200 dollars while buying this laptop to get it to be worthy of games. I tried to play games on my graphics card-less laptop and even with the 1 GB RAM it would freeze every 3-5 secs.
I've used this for a month now and it's brilliant with enough grunt for most applications and stuff I do - spreadsheets, surfing, DVD burning, i-tunes.
Pros: Value for money, all round performance.
Cons: Styling while not ugly dosn't make you go oh-er, and it wouldn't cost Dell anything to make it look like a fancy consumer product.
Amazing deal for this beautiful notebook. Worth every penny and more! I'm in love with this laptop.
Pros: - Extremely fast Core Duo Processor
- Large and beautiful screen
- Very cool and quiet
- Build quality comes close to Powerbooks and Thinkpads
- Powerful internal wireless
- Abundent USB Ports (4) well spaced
- DISCRETE GRAPHICS!!!!! (I play HALO CE on highest settings at highest resolution and get a reasonable 30 FPS)
- VISTA Capable (easily)
- Clear and vibrant speakers produce room filling sound (best laptop speakers I've EVER heard)
- LOOOOOWWW Price
- Also stable enough for Linux (Ubuntu)
- Media Direct software allows you to access media files without logging on to windows (can be insecure)
Cons: - Not a high power gaming notebook (Although it is good enough for HALO, half life 2, and O.K. for DOOM and FEAR)
If you're a student and need a high-performance, affordable laptop where you can easily do assignments, edit movies etc. and come home and play new games like Oblivion and FEAR smoothly (without settings on HIGH, HIGH, HIGH!) the Dell Inspiron 6400 is the laptop for you.
Pros: Powerful Core2 processor.
Reasonably powerful graphic card.
Up to 2GB 667MHz DDR2 ram.
15.4" SXGA+ screen (convenient size)
Cons: If you're weak and find 2.7 kg heavy (does anyone?), don't buy this laptop. If the weight is fine, COOL BANANAS!
i am a university student and have bought this notebook few months back and i find it just superb.i have been doing all my prjects, assignment and played couple og games here and ther and find it extremly smooth.it does have few setbacks, but hey u cant get everything.
Pros: Dual core, powerfull speaker, great screen,5in1 card reader, dual dvd witer,80gb hdd,1gb ram and best of all great price.
Cons: slighly heavy, inegrated graphics card is not so powerfull.
my parents bought me this laptop, im a senior high school student. what i really like about it is that everything is really easy to use and understand. yes it is a bit heavy, but that's not incredibly important in my eyes. i like the screen being a little wider than usual and its comfortable to type. i also like the fact that you can chose whether or not to have the touch pad. the buttons on the front for audio and video are great and i find them really helpful.the only real issue i have with this computer is the fact that when its not plugged in, the screen is not as bright-but let it be known that may because i simply don't know how to change the settings. other than that this is a great computer and i would definately recommend it to anyone.
Cons: -screen brightness when not plugged in
-a bit heavy, not that it really matters

I knew I was getting terrific value for the price I paid - Dell special $629.
Pros: Fast, Vivid and Cheap
Cons: Cheesy looks. Chrome, silver and white.
Prefer earlier models with recessed-quiet keyboard and all one color, grey.
