LG has labelled its latest mobile phone, the GD510 Pop, the "most compact 3-inch full touchscreen phone". We're not sure which other company will step out to contest this claim, but the Korean firm also took the chance to remind us that its Prada Phone, which was launched in January 2007, was the world's first full touchscreen phone. Now if that isn't a sly dig at the iPhone, we don't know what is.
According to LG, the GD510 will be available first in Europe in mid October followed by other markets. Specific details are scant, but LG says that the handset is designed to have key features that users crave, but "without the overhead of features they didn't use".
While we don't know what constitutes as "overheads", the GD510 will at least come with 8GB of on-board memory, a 3-inch WQVGA display, a 3-megapixel camera and a 4.8mm bezel from the screen to the edge of the phone. As a comparison, the bezel on the HTC Touch Diamond2 measures about 3.5mm. Elsewhere, there's only a single button on the front which lights up in green or red for Call and End functions, respectively. There is also what looks like an optional solar panel from the official product images. We're still waiting to hear from LG on whether the GD510 will make it to Australia as well as more technical specifications.
