Mario tops post-Christmas game sales
By James Kozanecki on 10 January 2008
Mario is first to the finish line in post-Christmas sales
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games proved to be the most popular game during the post-Christmas period down under, taking out the first spot in the overall game charts, according to data trackers GfK Australia.
Nintendo games dominated the overall charts for the week of December 24 to 30, 2007, with seven out of the top 10 being from the House of Mario. The popular puzzle game More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? reappeared in the overall charts after a brief hiatus, coming in at number two, while Nintendo's pack of Nintendogs managed to claim the third, fifth, and sixth spots, respectively. WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2008 for the PlayStation 2 closed the week off in the 10th position.
In other charts news, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare topped the PlayStation 3, PC, and the Xbox 360 charts, respectively, despite not making it into the overall game chart. Sony's karaoke franchise, SingStar, proved to be quite the holiday hit, with eight out of the possible 10 games in the PlayStation 2 chart being taken by a SingStar title.
