Your point is valid, but it speaks directly to the idea that we value performance specs over use of new materials or better engineering that doesn't necessarily translate to a direct 'work' benefit.

Hard to say, we haven't seen the Samsung for review. If it's using the same generation of DisplayLink technology, one could argue the same performance caveats would apply, with perhaps the display panel offering better colours. Still, I wouldn't want to be dragging an 18.5-inch monitor around with my laptop.

I saw that bit of news on Ausdroid about Canadian Telus branded Nexus S handsets working on the Telstra network. There are a number of Aussie phone importers who already sell a Next G compatible Nexus S if you're looking for one.

It's true I didn't consider the SE announcements either the best or the worst of the show, but I'm certainly not biased against them. The Xperia Arc (Anzu) is old news from CES and the Play just didn't grab my attention when I used it.

Gesture controls are a different control metaphor to what we are all used to. It's hard not to look at a device like this and wonder where the "Home" button is. But once you start using it, I found it is a much faster and convenient control scheme than even the single button on the iPad.

I'm so jealous. I had my tonsils removed as well, and it reduced my nightly incidents by about half, but this still wasn't sufficient. Has anyone tried using the mouthguard still alternatives? I'm very curious to try one for myself.

MacBooks are great, we really like them (I have one!). Sadly on score alone they *just* miss out on the list this year.

I've got a feeling though that now the time consuming task of pushing out the first iPad is over, Apple has a little more time to focus on the MacBook division. 2011 will be a good year!

The reviewed SKU was the K52F-SX156X. As you've noticed, there are many K52F's on the market, with different processor, RAM and hard drive specs.

In general, steer clear of the ones that include the Pentium processor, and you've got the chance to grab a model with 4GB RAM, we'd take it! As far as we can see from www.staticice.com.au, it should still fall under the AU$1000 mark.

I use SwitchPro, same idea and same price. I wanted to highlight free options for this article, but these "almost" free apps are much better if you're willing to play.

Still waiting to see an Envy -- should be getting one of the new Beat Editions soon I hope.

I'm not sure assessing a piece of software is ever as simple as writing a list, and I'm not sure all of the shortcomings listed are dealbreakers for most smartphone users. I would definitely trade off Bluetooth file exchange for a system which is responsive and reliable.

We haven't seen the 2.1 update for the X10 yet, so we'll have to revisit that when its released. I'm using the Milestone 2 now and I quite like it. It may well make the list when we've finished the review.

No word yet, though assuming the architecture of 2.3 is the same as 2.2 then I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be.
