Minecraft creeps its way past Call of Duty

The console version of Minecraft has overtaken Modern Warfare 3 as the most played game on Xbox Live.

Over on Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb's blog, the latest list of user stats for Xbox Live has revealed a newcomer at number one: Minecraft.

The Xbox version of the popular low-fi game over took Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 — the first time a non Call of Duty title has held the top spot since time immemorial. Or, at least since 14 March 2011, when the first Top Live entry appeared on the Major's blog, with Call of Duty: Black Ops on top of the pile.

The stats are based on global unique users on Xbox Live. The full top 20 list for the week of 15 October is:
