Mini Cooper S (2007 R56)

The Mini may be largely new but you'll have to have a phD in Mini-ology to spot the differences. Under the skin, however, the new Cooper S gets a new 1.6-litre engine which is now turbocharged not supercharged.

The Good:Almost everything that matters

The Bad:slightly vague gearbox, long throws, runflats, weak airconditioning in hot weahter, center armrest

As you can see, there are some negatives to the R56 Cooper s. Despite these, however, it has never deminished my pleasure whilst driving my car that I have dubbed (somewhat shamefully) "Kit". I know, who names their cars, really...But with a car like this; a car that one can't help fall in love with, it is an inevitability. At any rate, the car itself is, for a lack of a better word, fabulous. It really is a car that other manufacturers should take note of because it combines all the good things a car should be - that is, in an enthusiast's perspective. It is nimble, agile, quick, light, comfortable, cheap, and an absolute joy to drive. It really is addicting. Not to mention the gas mileage is rediculous considering the performance of this little beast. One thing i will say, ditch the runflats like a bad habit. They absolutely ruin everyday ride quality and are expensive to replace. But that's BMW for you. I guess it's the price we pay for having such a fine automobile manufacturer oversee a project like miniusa. But you've heard all this before i'm sure from other reviewers. The important thing to take away from my review is of course that i would recommend this car over any other to anyone that enjoys driving. period. And i have driven almost every sport car under 40K out there. So there it is; go buy one - NOW.
