The Discovery 925 headset:
Art on your ear

It's fashion; it's art; it's a Bluetooth headset. Gather round and have a gander at the Plantronics Discovery 925.

The V-shaped headset weighs a feathery eight grams and will last for around five hours of gas-bagging on the go. Ear tips in three sizes ensure a snug fit with your ear tubes, while a soft carrying-and-charging case will give you an extra five hours of talk time.

Plantronics is serious about the fashion angle, having launched the piece of cheek-grazing metal at an exclusive gathering during New York Fashion Week.

"Similar to high performance watches or cars, the Discovery 925 is designed to deliver a first-class experience," said Chris Brown, retail product manager for Plantronics, Australia and New Zealand, in the product's press release. Imploring us to "fully understand the physical and emotional relationship between the product and the end user", the statement goes on to describe the Discovery 925 as an "objet d'art".

While we're not denying that it's fully arty, the Discovery 925's looks are more akin to an oversized hair clip than your typical plinth-dwelling sculpture. Still, the product at least brings some class to the realm of the Bluetooth earpiece — a genre given a bad rep by owners who shout into the devices while paying for their groceries at supermarkets.

The Discovery 925 will be available at the end of July for AU$199.

Sorry, but ANY Bluethooth ear/head set is only trendy if you have a comb-over and drive a convertable! Or if you're a pimp...

The Parrot Minikit Slim makes it very easy to make and receive calls without taking your eyes off the road to look at your phone, but a poorly executed visor clip makes this otherwise excellent speakerphone feel cheaper than it is.

Compared to the headphones bundled with Apple's iPhone 3G the MM 50s are light years ahead. Exceptional sounding bass and its affordable price tag make the MM 50 a great choice for replacing those dodgy Apple ear buds.
