Range of connectivity options including 3G and HSDPA
Slide-out QWERTY keypad

Support for Bluetooth stereo (A2DP)
The bad:
Chunky size
Heavy
microSD expansion slot
The bottomline:
An extremely well-equipped Pocket PC PDA-phone, Dopod has made sure that the 3G-enabled 838 Pro balances features with power so it doesn't leave you hanging when you need to access applications like Skype. Due to its size and weight, however, you'll need a bag if you're going to carry it around.

Pros: *Wi-FI rocks
*Skype is good to use the phone does not hang up
*E mail is awesome as i use gmail and my network providers email address
*Use opera mini as your browser and your browser will just work as a normal internet browser (or at least try to)
*Active Sync is an amazing feature
Cons: *Heavy
*Battery life is not that good if you use skype and Wi fi all the time like me
*Screen gets dirty but its alryt you can clean it or put a protector on it
Great Phone / PDA once you get to know the full capability. Excellent WiFi features.
If you understand its use and use it with a little common sense it does its job as it was designed for. As with any software based device you will get the odd freeze if multitasking.
Pros: Excellent Features, Connectivity, Great for Business and Portable use. Slide out Key Board.
I am an 818 user, ready to upgrade, but am reluctant to get 838 due to experience with current model. Big problem, when phone looses signal it freezes, so seach does not recommence.
Without this problem, it really suits mt needs. Not prepared to go round again if signal drop not fixed.
I wonder why people said this phone is sux. I found that this phone is excellent, stable wifi and very good speaker and loud speaker output. SMSingis just great and easy. You can add yuour own words into the dictionary without any pain. The 2mp cam, is suprisingly sharp and render almost natural color. Not like my N95, lots of purple hue on it. The jog dial simply amazing, selection and scrolling up and down is much easier. No stylus needed now...really! The speed is reasonably fast. Screen brightness in daylight also appeared to be very good.
Pros: Connectivity ....anywhere anytime.
Good battery for a PDA phone (beats N95 anytime)
The JasJam is a no no. I've now returned mine to shop 3 times and even been given a totally new one. Same problems over and over again. I've talked to a number of other Jas Jam users, more or less the verdict is the same. This phone sucks.
Pros: # Handwriting recognition was a nice surprise. Although I couldn't master all the different entry methods, like the 'Block Recognizer' the 'Letter Recognizer was enough for me and it was great that there were so many different types of text entry. One to suit everyone I'm sure.
# Extra Applications - I installed MobiPocket (an ebook reader) which was fantastic and I was able to read my books very clearly from the phone.
# Skype - Another extra application. It was wonderful having skype on this phone when I would get the WiFi working. It seemed to me that Telstra blocked me from using Skype with their 3G network, as I could never get it to connect. Skype on the JasJam does have a number of problems, and after a phone software upgrade just stopped working altogether. But while it lasted, it was fun.
# Scroll wheel on the side of the phone was great. I just loved it. Getting through emails, menus and books was fun.
# MSWord and Excel were quite useful.
# The email application worked well with IMAP and generally was a good client.
Cons: * WiFi was just horrible to use. It often disconnected. It was unreliable, and wasted huge amounts of batteries. When it was connected it kept popping up and offering other networks to use. Plus the management tools for what networks you wanted to use was just a nightmare.
* It's too big. I never felt comfortable carrying it.
* Camera is bad. Not worth using.
* The software would often lag, and start to slow down.
* Windows Mobile is missing lots of needed tools such as a text editor, world clock, etc.
* User interface is fairly crap.
* Random button presses. Even when I switch off the interface and put the phone in my pocket, at some point I must knock some buttons and wham, I'm now browsing the internet.
The Broken
The buttons on the front such as answer call, start menu etc... would occasionally just stop working. I've never been able to figure out a pattern for when these buttons would work and when they wouldn't. Just sometimes I can press the 'phone' button to make a call and other times I can't.
Video Card just kept freezing up. At least this is my theory on it. From occasionally to quite often, when you turn the screen on it will be white. All white. Then you have to keep turning it off and on until it starts showing you the interface. When it does actually start showing the interface, it is all scrambled and wrong, and again you just have to keep turning it off and on until it works. The longest this happened to me was for about 30mins. Obviously this was when I really needed it the most.
I am using dopod 838pro for last 4 months. This is a very good set with lot of options.
Pros: All the options you can think of are there and its quite user friendly.
Cons: The screen get dirty quickly.Even when the mobile is locked and an incoming call is there then at times when you bring out the set tosee who is the caller it gets connected without any push
"You won't be able to view your photos on the device until you transfer them over to your computer because it uses MicroSD but digital cameras typically use SD" - this comment makes zero sense to me at all!!
Of course you can view the photos that you have taken on the 838pro. Does the article mean you can't view the 838pro photos on another camera? Why would you want to? And if you did, just slot the MicroSD card into the SD adaptor that every single MicroSD card comes with and view it on the camera. Does it mean vice cersa - you can't view photos from another digital camera on the 838pro? Again, why would you want to? To email them? So what? If the 838pro took SD, the article would say "you can't view CompactFlash, MicroDrive, MemoryStick, SmartMedia or XD cards" - there are so many standards, it is a given one card won't work in multiple devices. But here's the real rub - IF you do want to view photos from a SD camera directly on the 838pro, just use a MicroSD card in an SD adaptor in your SD camera then you CAN view those photos straight on your MicroSD 838pro!
I use that same trick for sharing MP3s / photos between my A1000 / 838Pro / GPS navigator / picture frame.
MicroSD is great because it is a fraction the volume of SD, the read/write circuitry takes up a minute fraction of the space that SD does, and yet it IS compatible with SD.
Pros: Uses MicroSD.
Fully compatible with SD devices using the MicroSD to SD adaptor that comes with all MicroSD cards.
As with all Windows Operating Systems, this phone will regularly freeze, crash, and experience countless other glitches. You will just come to accept this as normal.
Pros: Great functionality on most fronts
Cons: Even the simpliest task (e.g. making a call or sending an SMS) is far more complicated than normal. A big bit also.
