We'd heard the rumours, we'd seen the pictures and finally we had a chance to play with Samsung's flagship phone Omnia for ourselves.
At a pre-CommnuicAsia launch event, Samsung executives managed to launch the Omnia without a single reference to the iPhone 3G (nor would we have expected them to), but all in attendance were silently making their own comparisons. For our money the Omnia is the iPhone killer; it's a case of simple mathematics. Side-by-side, personal preferences aside, the Omnia matches every feature and spec the iPhone 3G offers, and often betters them.
Joseph Hanlon travelled to CommunicAsia as a guest of Samsung.

A weighty proposition
When we finally had the Omnia in our hands, the biggest surprise was how light the handset was. With the tech under the hood and the stainless steel components, the Omnia weighed much less than we anticipated.

accelerometer (in fact we have a sneaking suspicion Apple own the title): did you even do the slightest bit of research on this? Um... how about NO. Accelerometers have been around for a long time and the term is a general term for a device that measures acceleration and gravity induced reaction force. Geeze, let's just assume that Apple invented gravity while we're at it.

These polished-GUI Windows Mobile devices look very promising. The only thing that keeps on causing me to have second thoughts is the thought that I'll have to resort to pulling out the dreaded stylus once again coz of the non-finger-friendly interface that plagues MOST (if not all) WM apps still - even the built-in apps. The iPhone, on the other hand, forces all software developers to create visually- & finger-pleasing apps for the device.

Omnia is Latin for "everything"... the Titanic was also publicised unsinkable... Iphone still has the imagination and so there should be competition.. so we all get the best product
