Modern Warfare 2 makes players crowd-killing terrorists?
By Ty Pendlebury on 28 October 2009
GameSpot has reported that the new game Modern Warfare 2 features a section of gameplay which casts players as terrorists gunning down civilians inside an airport.
The story links to footage supposedly leaked from the game in which it appears the player is one of several armed gunmen shooting at crowds as they attempt to go through airport security. The "player" is even shown shooting an unarmed person as they try to drag one of the wounded away.
The footage was posted on several sites but it appears the game's publisher Activision has pulled them down, which only lends to its authenticity. No context for the scene is known, but the scene's gritty realism appears to be a marked contrast to the cartoonish violence of games such as Grand Theft Auto IV.
Modern Warfare 2 is the sequel to the popular Call of Duty 4 and has been given an MA15+ rating in Australia. It's due for release on 10 November 2009.

exactly it all comes down to bad parenting and people like that wanting to place blame somewhere. I play racing games but that doesnt make me want to go out and total my celica gt just for the sake of driving fast!!! Its allways much easier to blame others for your own kids problems-these parents truly need to grow up

just a question: would there be a different reception if it was humans that were violently killing aliens or similar? Because that could still be graphic with screams etc...or would it be fine because apparently everyone 'knows' that aliens are fantasy.
It's a very blurry line in my opinion. -

Wow, some people need to get over this violence in videogames issue.
I am under 18, and seeing this footage seriously makes me reflect on how horrible innocent killing is, it does not convince me to go out and massacre innocent people. If you're scared that your kids will go out and kill innocents after playign this, then Jesus, you have some problems. If you were a real parent, you'd not even let your child have the chance to buy a gun, or have possession of a gun.
The more realistic and terrible and violent this is, the more the innocent people in the game scream and groan and beg for mercy, puts more emphasis on how horrible the people who do these things are. If a kid thinks it looks like fun, then they have a real mental issue and/or terrible parents.

Personally, I don't think a scene like this will cause anyone to become a killer. But it's the lack of player choice that is disturbing here. From details we've found out since, you need to play this scene to gain the trust of the terrorists -- shooting the other gunmen will most likely end the game.
While I'm hopeful the game will not get censored due to mainstream backlash -- I'm looking forward to playing it -- it just highlights the fact that some games are just not meant for children. -

Its a video game people, its not going to do more damage than what tv/media/movies already do. Please, blaming or suggesting that violent acts are done or mimicked based on the content of said video games is a excuse to try shift the blame for said acts away from the person-because inherently we dont want believe that the bad guys are real.
