GameSpot has reported that the new game Modern Warfare 2 features a section of gameplay which casts players as terrorists gunning down civilians inside an airport.

The story links to footage supposedly leaked from the game in which it appears the player is one of several armed gunmen shooting at crowds as they attempt to go through airport security. The "player" is even shown shooting an unarmed person as they try to drag one of the wounded away.

The footage was posted on several sites but it appears the game's publisher Activision has pulled them down, which only lends to its authenticity. No context for the scene is known, but the scene's gritty realism appears to be a marked contrast to the cartoonish violence of games such as Grand Theft Auto IV.

Modern Warfare 2 is the sequel to the popular Call of Duty 4 and has been given an MA15+ rating in Australia. It's due for release on 10 November 2009.

I played through the level without firing shots at the civilians...only at the enemies who were armed like the SWAT team later in the level

I played the level, undisturbed. This kind of event could definitely happen in real life, and adds to the FICTIONAL story of the game. Of course it would be horrific if it happened in real life, but distinguishing between the two should be fairly simple for anyone with half a brain.

It does disturb me. I do realize that it wouldn't make my kid go out and do this, but it does bring to mind Columbine and other mass murders. I guess that is why this level is disturbing.

There's nothing wrong with this part in the game, sure we'll need to shoot'em up but as long as you know what this signifies ur good.

Grand Theft Auto came way before this, though yes, it has its options of not killing civilians but i'm sure those who've played it would've shot a few up.

Trust in your ppl to have an ethical sense, unless this game goes to lesser dev countries with warfare going on..i doubt so.

Censorship bodies always try to over censor, movies are allowed to depict innocent killings, gore, strong violence - games are prejudiced against.

exactly it all comes down to bad parenting and people like that wanting to place blame somewhere. I play racing games but that doesnt make me want to go out and total my celica gt just for the sake of driving fast!!! Its allways much easier to blame others for your own kids problems-these parents truly need to grow up
