Motorola ROKR E1

By Jeremy Roche on 14 December 2005

An older model handset that Motorola has tried to resuscitate by building in support for iTunes -- but in our eyes, there is no real hope for this incarnation. Perhaps in another form, Motorola -- or Apple -- can successfully merge the smooth iPod experience with a mobile phone.

I bought my first ROKR E1 at the start of January this year and it started freezing on me after only 2 weeks. so they replaced it for me. I've had my replacement for only 3 weeks and it's doing the exact same thing. I am EXCEPTIONALLY unhappy with motorola, particularly this model and am in NO hurry to EVER spend my money on a motorola product again!! All this is quite unfortunate, really. There were some features that i really loved....

    • Good: -For the money, I think 50 songs capacity is FANTASTIC!!
      -The stereo speakers sound great.
-It's easy as to use. (all the buttons are on opposite sides from nokias tho, so keep that in mind if you're switching brands)
    • Bad: -The screen is really weird. You Have to look at it dead-on or else the colour and clarity are gone.
-It's slow to navigate thru the menu.
-The event lights are pretty but if you activate them you lose your backlight.
-Clearly they're not that reliable. i can't be the only person to have had TWO duds in a row.

Great budget phone, but not without its problems.
My phone wont let me move any sounds onto or off the phone, common glitch?

    • Good: -High quality sound from headphones and on-board speakers
      -Great screen, bright and clear
      -Good size and weight
    • Bad: -Temperamental plugs
      -Slow transfers
      -Inconsistent button mapping
      -Randomly resets when multi-tasking
      -50 SONG LIMIT!!!!

a good phone for bargain hunters

a very good phone for bargain hunters only 179 with optus pre paid. it has great music quality, too bad for such a poor design on the itunes and music sync. however, like all motorola's, the rokr is continually having problems with the buttons, battery or screen. a more studier phone would be a nokia but i think that Sony erricson have done very well with their walkman series too.

    • Good: very good music quality
      large colourful screen
      nice design
      long battery life
good quality for a VGA camera
      bluetooth is handy
    • Bad: 50 song limit.
      20 second video recording limit.
      joystick breaks easily.
itunes is slow and music transfer is like watching grass grow.
      screen scratches easily
you can only get it in white

    Its ok but..

    • Good: its good because it has itunes and allows me to play music aloud not through the ear peace or head phones. I am also glad this phone has Bluethooth as i am using this consistantly. GREAT
    • Bad: The phone is simply to slow when you browse songs aloud. Also the phone doesnt have enough memory and wont allow me to hold a mixture of songs ( itunes) and pictures.
