Apple fans, get set for a flock of new clock docks: Philips has released two iPod-compatible clock radios to wake you from those dreams of the iPhone.
The AU$139.95 AJ301D follows on from last year's AJ300D, which scored a favourable review on this here Web site. The 301D's features list looks remarkably similar to that of its predecessor — iPod dock, FM radio, remote control, dual alarms and an auxiliary input to plug in non-iPod MP3 players. (The dock will also charge Philips' GoGear MP3 players, but these devices are the wallflowers to Apple's prom queens in terms of market popularity.)
Reader comments on the AJ300D frequently lamented the non-adjustable alarm volume, with some reporting blown-off eardrums as a result. The veracity of such claims is not established, but it looks like Philips has responded to the complaints; the press release for the 301D lists "gentle wake with increasing alarm volume" as a feature.
The AU$109.95 DC200 dock clock gets a bit more Byron Bay, allowing you to wake up to massage parlour-esque sounds including rainforest ambience and chirping birds. Other features include 20 FM presets and a USB socket for playing MP3s and WMAs straight from a memory key.
Officially known as "docking entertainment systems" — highfalutin! — both products are compatible with all dock-connector iPods, including the iPod Touch. And presumably the iPhone, should it ever arrive on Oceanic shores.
