Is it going to rain? How weather can affect battery performance

Ever felt like calling it a day when you felt the weather was just too hot to work on anymore? Batteries can feel this same lethargy though it works slightly differently for them.

Rechargeable NiMH

For use, it is best to read the manufacturer's advice on the optimum operating temperature for the battery as the general rule of thumb dictates that operating the battery beyond either end of the temperature limit spectrum will reduce battery life. Though in the case of lost battery capacity due to lower than ideal temperatures, this can be sometimes remedied by raising the temperature by placing it in between your palms.

Some important issues are not addressed in this article! -NiCd batteries need to be recharged after they are drained off juice, recharging them when they have 50% juice will reduce their life time. Is there similar issues with Li-ion, NiMHbatteries? -Is it better/allright to keep Li-ion/NiMH batteries under constant charge? -Is one charging method better than other? (fast/normal, constant current, cinstant voltage) -is there a comprimise as NiMH capacity increases (e.g compare 1800mAh to 2400mAh), such as lifetime?
