In the early hours of September 6, your slumber may have been stirred by the sound of an Apple fan's alarm clock.

The most devoted among the devotees -- the Apple core, if you will -- arose at a ridiculous time to boot up their Macs and follow CEO Steve Jobs' announcement of the new iPod line-up in San Francisco.

Windows Vista and the PS3 may have had midnight launches, but the enthusiasm for Microsoft and Sony can't compare to the emotional highs an Apple fan experiences when watching footage from the Turtlenecked One's keynote.

Audience members whistled, whooped and cheered as a rainbow of new Nanos materialised on the giant screen. Introducing the iPod Touch, Jobs referred to the device as "one of the seven wonders of the world".

Steve and his followers evidently believe that the feeling of holding a new iPod is better than owning a set of giant, gold-covered robots you can climb into and drive around, crushing vehicles underfoot. But what about the people on the street? In this week's Whaddyareckon? we took two of the new players outside and caught people's first reactions on video.

What...apple is still bringing out more ipod's!! Ok I'll admit I had a mini once, till the battery was only lasting 25minutes. They were good enough to replace it under warranty, but then when the second one fell less than a metre and was :(. I gave up on them. Thou shalt never buy an apple product. Having said that they're not the only ones to rape consumers, look at any games company, computer hardware company, mobile phone companies and many others, change it a little apply a little marketing strategy, and you get people to leave their perfectly good mp3 player or phone to buy a new one. No wonder so many people are up to their necks in debt! Oh well it's a bit like the old holden/ford argument. On the 8th day, god created macs to get everyone started, and on the 9th day he created PC's for those smart enough to progress.

Should've taken the Ipod touch to the streets, then you might have got some actual reactions. By the way Ella - you need some new sleepwear. And a personality.

So I am about to replace my old Medion brand MP3 player and am having a tough time deciding. Ipod, Creative Zen or Zune - when they come out. Here's what I dont like about Ipods, I prefer to drag and drop, ie- hate itunes. I prefer to use Windows Media Player. I know it, I like it. I want to be able to get stuff off as well as on easily. ZUne is microsoft, which works with my comp - you would hope without having to change media player. But leaves a lot of questions such as batt life, video out? sound quality. And creative, which seem to me the best looking, cant combine the sd memory card slot into the library. Being going to and fro for days and cant decide which? ANy offerings

OK. So I am not a teenager, far from it. I've been buggerizing around with computers for at least 15 years. The Ipod classic I have just bought is badly let down by iTunes. Itunes has got to be the most badly written piece of software I've ever come across, far from intuitive & almost impossible to use & learn. The instruction manual(that you must download & print yourself ) is so general as to be useless & seems to assume that you already know how to use the basic functions. In short, I hate iTunes. It seems you have to be 13 to be able to understand how to use it & even worse, without this monstrosity, your Ipod is useless !

The iRiver Lplayer is a very likeable player with a decent feature set and an ideal choice for anyone seeking a small and simple MP3 player for music. The best reason to choose it is its small size and intuitive navigation system.
