Apple iPod (updated fifth generation, 80GB) User reviews

By James Kim on 13/09/2006

More Apple reviews , RRP: AU$499.00

The good:

  • Improved video battery life and brighter screen
  • Brings gapless playback to the masses
  • New features such as instant search and enhanced games
  • Excellent overall value

The bad:

  • No major new functions such as FM radio, wireless, recording
  • Small screen not conducive to video viewing
  • Proprietary USB cable
  • Narrow native video-format compatibility
  • Body is still scratch prone

The bottomline:

The amazingly low priced updated Apple iPod gets many under-the-hood improvements, but it's still not a true video player.

There is no user's menu or instraction about how to use the iPod. Most impotant is seens no one knows how to conver a DVD to iPod 80GB video player. I just got one and have no idear how to use it and went through a lot of shops and no one can tell me, no even people from the Apple shop. Please if some one know how to use PC to transfer a DVD movie on the iPod, help me. Send a email to me: shen@rsbs.anu.edu.au.

Great mp3 player, i bought it recently and bought the leather case with it from the ipod website. An extra $100 but totally worth it. Looks great.

Pros: Music sounds great, controls are good, slim and beautiful.

Cons: No power adapter, lack of radio. many fingerprints

I think the iPods are the classiest mp4 players around. I myself have the older 30gb model and love it.

Pros: Stylish, small enough, easy operation large capacity.

Cons: I would love to see Apple propose a deal where you can trade in your old ipod for the updated versions only paying a little extra cash for the trade in and shipping etc. its always dissapionting when you purchase something and in a few months learn that a newer better version is available
