NBN Co: 'we are not set up to be a broadcaster'

Over at The Australian, NBN Co's product development manager Tim Stone has revealed that the infrastructure giant had been "approached constantly" to embed a media multicast delivery system into the network.

Similar to what Fetch TV has expressed interest in doing, a multicast system would cut down on costs for the delivery of content by allowing it to be streamed just once to the 121 points of interconnect before being sent to the customer.

Stone told The Australian that doing so would put NBN Co in the position of being a broadcaster and said that: "That's not what we're here to do. We're here to solve a very specific issue about the copper network being old and slow."
