The Nikon D3S is the replacement for the professional workhorse, the D3, and sits alongside the D3X at the top of the Nikon FX sensor line-up.

It's all in the "S" suffix — it denotes a considered revision rather than a major upgrade. The FX-sensor D3 helped cement Nikon's reputation in the professional photographic community, and the D3S builds upon this by adding features like HD video recording (720p at 24 frames per second) and increased ISO sensitivity.

Maximum sensitivity now sits at an astounding 102,400 (achievable through the Hi 3 setting) whereas the native ISO levels are 200-12,800.

The image sensor has been completely redesigned from the D3, with the D3S sporting a brand new CMOS sensor. There's also dual-card slots and a new image sensor cleaning mechanism.

It hasn't changed much from the D3 in other respects, like the continuous shooting speed which is still 9 frames per second.

Australian pricing has yet to be revealed, but the D3S will be available from early December.

Does it have a phone built in?

I've never had a photo camera before... I might buy this and see if I like taking photos or not.
