Announced at CommunicAsia 2009, Nokia's 5530 XpressMusic adds another incrementally amended handset into one of Nokia's popular product segments without superseding the forerunner.
If you feel like you've seen the 5530 before its because you have, and only recently. The 5800 XpressMusic was released in Australia three months ago. But where the 5800 allowed users to display four of their BFFs on the home screen, the 5530 will keep 20 faces along a scroll-able panel, with hot links to their social networking vent of choice, like Facebook.
Unlike the 5800, the home screen on the 5530 will multitask with contacts at the top, your favourite four apps at the bottom and a music player widget in the centre. The interface on 5800 makes users choose between favourite people and favourite programs, a choice that leads to many excursions to the main menu and mournful soul-searching for owners of the phone who decided a shortcut to Snake was more important than their buddies. Hopefully this firmware enhancement will be rolled out to 5800 XpressMusic handsets as well.
This newer model is a teensy bit smaller all-round, sporting a 2.9-inch touchscreen display, but features identical specs in regards to its camera and external inputs. Nokia plans to ship the 5530 XpressMusic with a 4GB microSD card when it's released in Q3.
