Nokia 6233
By Andy White on 21 July 2006
The 6233 is a reasonably priced 3G handset that despite the absence of video calls performs excellently in the vast array of features it does possess. Ultimately, the 6233 is a smallish classically-designed handset that is easy-to-use, and which builds upon the success of previous models like the 6230i, but packs a little more punch.

- Good: Great speakers.
Clear handsfree sound.
Great memory support.
Excellent cam, specially Video Resolution options.
Unique and cool Themes applied only on this phone. - Bad: No FF/Rw option in the music player:s, nor in the video player.
A bit large compared to other 6 series phones. (6300, 6230(i)...)
Great phone, compatible and has many features.
- Good: Great speakers.

- Good: All good but will see in time how it handles rigors of incar use in remote regions.
- Bad: Can't see anything significant but it probably could do with a bigger colour range rather than needing to change with non-Nokia covers later. It's only a minor quibble that is common to most phones irrespective of brand.
The test on the 6233 was good but we do not need to replace the existing kit with the CR-56 car kit to make the 6233 useable with a cradle. All it needs is a replacement cradle, part No MBC - 155 to make it compatable. The old model had the retaining hooks in the side of the phone body. The new one has retainers that hold the phone from the top. Perhaps this is to address the problem of insufficient downward force being applied to the phone to make reliable pin contact. This is particularly problematic when the hooks and slots become worn from inserting and removing the phone from the cradle frequently and in dusty environments where good pin contact is sometime marginal. A cynic may say it is just another attempt by manufacturers to make extra money by selling more accessories. The non-technical customer may believe they need to buy a whole kit and this view may be deliberately or inadvertently encouraged by phone shop staff. The cradle and phone connection is pin compatable between the previous car kit model and the current series of GSM and 3g models designed for use with car kits. The whole new kit is expensive ($300 + excluding decent aerial)but the cradle replacement is $60 and free with business use (ABN supplied).
