Nokia 6288

By Ella Morton on 06 December 2006

The 6288 improves on the 6280, but while it performs well, it lacks a standout feature to pull in the punters.

I would advise everyone AGAINST EVER BUYING THIS PHONE!!!!!!

Firstly i want to say that i have had nokia phones for the last 12 years and have never had a problem with any of them before now.

I took out a 24 month plan with virgin and and chose the Nokia 6288 because it was new and different.

It is different, the difference is unlike other phones this one doesnt work, before ultimately asking for virgin to cancel my contract because i was sick of not having a working phone i had been through 5, thats right 5 different handsets each of which were either broken when i opened the box or just stopped working after around 2-3 days!

Now i can understand getting 1 or maybe 2 dud phones, but to get 5 phones each of which were broken on arrival or died after a few days has to be more than a coincidence and proove that the Nokia 6288 really is one the worst phones every bought out by what is normally a very good phone maker.

    • Good: Yes it is a nice looking phone, but thats as far as it goes
    • Bad: 1. The slider is very loose to the point where it can slide by itself

      2. The screen has a mind of its own and turns black at the most inappropriate times.

      3. the buttons stick to the point that they are unusable.

      4. Some of the buttons don't even work.

      5. The phone hangs itself up in the middle of a phone call

I bought this phone in July, 2007.
It's been fair good, until i started taking it to high school. I'm not extremeley careful with my phone & I've dropped it a couple of times.. my fault I know! Anyway, it packed up & i just got a new simcard, but I cant text anyone, but i can ring. Its really weird?

    • Good: Looks fair good.
    • Bad: Packs up really easily.
Not good if your not that careful with your belongings/ phones.

this is the worse phone i have ever used in my life!!!!!! i guess its alright if you work in the office and dont really go out much but!!! if you live a normal life this phone will freakin break! pretty much i want a phone that doesnt break and this one failed! i had it repaired twice first it it would always turn off by itself when i opened it. then after that the down button wouldnt work which made texting a nightmare. btw when u lock the phone the voice recorder on the outside doens lock. then the camera programme just stopped working. i usually never give things such a bad review but this was the worse phone i have ever owned. this was my first nokia phone and definetly my last. please do not by this phone

    • Good: wins the prize for worst phone ever

This Phone is horrible. Bought from three on the 29 dollar cap. 4 members of my family got the same deal. All 4 phones have been taken to three and have been replaced. They still dont work. Avoid this phone.

    • Good: Free on $29 cap
    • Bad: -Freezes
      -Turns itself off
      -Battery Life
      -'Stops working all together'

It's a good value for money since it's 3g capable, it has a camera/video, and it's black casing makes it look professional. You can also change the font sizes which is good

    • Good: 3G, good battery life, clear resolution
    • Bad: side's a little loose, bulky, memory's a little low

I have had this phone for 14 months on the Three $29 Cap and within the 14 months i have had the phone repaired 3 times, all ofcourse were within in the first 12 months therefore being covered by the nokia warrenty - which is more reliable and effecient than 3's warrenty.

The problems associated with the first 3 incidents were; faulty camera, faulty screen, fauly camera again.

Now on the 14th month, where im not covered by warrenty the screen goes blank white, then when the background light turns off it goes black. I can still answer calls but cannot see the screen. Previous to this the camera for a third time wasnt working, it would freeze on the menu, and also i could not view videos and the phone would restart itself everytime i attempted to watch one.

Im trying to get it fixed but since it is out of warrenty i am having troubles, im currently trying to take this further as my phone has caused me a lot of trouble and im hoping i can ether exit the contract or have a replacement phone of a different model, even if its a cheaper model.

Overall, the phone is excellent - when it works. But due to the faults, it gives the phone a bad name. I know many people who have had the same difficulties as me, but im not sure what outcome they have got out of it.

    • Good: Great phone, when it works.
    • Bad: Prone to faults provoked by nothing.

Got this phone on a plan with 3. Within a few months, screen cracked with one minor drop onto the carpet (it's my fault I know). Not a good phone for people who are prone to dropping their phones. With my older Nokia phone I dropped it many many times with no damage whatsoever.
I liked the phone, so went to get the screen fixed for around $100. Fast forward a few more months and the screen started screwing up again, although it's a whole new different screen. Finally, a couple of days ago, it died. It sucks because I actually liked the phone, it has all the features I need. But I'm not going to bother dishing out another hundred to get the screen fixed again, I'm just going to get another 3 prepaid phone while waiting for my contract to end.

    • Good: Great phone while it works
    • Bad: The SCREEN.
