Nokia N76
By Ella Morton on 10 July 2007
The N76 is worthy of its N-series name, but for the price we would have liked to see its specs improved a notch.

sturdy phone, lovely design and heavy too, (i wont lose it my pocket)
- Good: it's tiny
- Bad: crashes too much and after 24 hours of ownership (and a reinstall or the nokia firmware) it's sad to say that it's going back to vodafone

It's the Best Phone ever , i think that there's not any N-series phone that is thinner than the razor most of the n-series aren't thin. It's easy to use and has a wonderful design.
- Good: Exellent programs and features.
- Bad: The inbuilt memory is S**t but you could get up to 2 gig of expandable memory.

I would like to point out this has been an excelent phone. However I don't like the fact that ive only had it for 3 weeks and the sliver/chrome part on the top and on the sides is already wearing off.
- Good: Big Buttons, Simple Interface, Good software revision *Dosn't crash all the time.
- Bad: Fliping the lid is a little tricky sometimes
Chrome painted surfaces (pretty bits) are already wearing off and exposing the white plastic underneath.

It pains me when I read supposed technologically-informed reviewers who criticise a camera based on the number of megapixels. When will the world be rid of such ignorant thinking?!!

This is the best mobile I've had, and I've had several over the past 15 years. It looks great and, even more importantly, works well. It's also the first Nokia I've owned, having had poor experiences with two preceding brands. I use the phone for business so extras such as the MP3 place are nice to have but not vital.
- Good: Clear speech (both caller and called). This was a No. 1 priority - a new phone had to have clear speech. Exceptionally poor clarity was the main reason I scrapped a 12 month old Samsung D600. The N76 doesn't have speech clarity circuitry but it's excellent all the same. Has a great MP3 player with ample volume. Voice dialling, neat size, clam-shell form factor, 3.5mm standard headphone socket.
It synchronises with Outlook. This works efficiently and it's easy to find a date and read the appointment. It's not so easy to amend an appointment, but I can do that on the PC after I return home. I no longer take my PDA to appointments - the N76 is more than adequate on the road. A minor quibble is that it is not possible to sync calender and to-do list independently. I don't need the to-do list on the phone but you don't get a choice. - Bad: Expensive. The front screen is prone to showing fingerprints. Some users may need to use fingernails to operate keys as they are rather small (not a serious shortcoming). Doesn't have anywhere to attach a neck or wrist strap.
Some might criticize if for not being openable with one hand. In fact it takes a little practice to use two hands. This is not a problem as far as I'm concerned. It closes securely and doesn't have a spring hinge that might break down.
Not really a pro or con but the camera is a standard Toshiba fixed-focus 2mp unit with all the shortcomings this implies. It takes reasonable photos in sunny conditions but nothing to get excited about. In other-than-good light the photos are, as you would expect, very noisy. It's for emergency use only. If you need a small camera buy a pocket-sized proper one - they're under $100 these days.

Great phone, great OS, mp3 player, advanced web browsing, can use as GPS with a $90 Nokia GPS module, sleek and elegant styling.
- Good: Slim, excellent graphics, advanced web browsing, able to do almost everything you do from your laptop but on your N76.
- Bad: No Carl Zeiss lens, battery life not amazing.

May I remind people that it's supposed to be a phone, not a device which wipes your a*** for you. It makes calls plus much more. So how can you call a phone that does far more than call someone featureless?
Also, it's very hard to produce a phone which doesn't look copied from another model. Unless of course you were going to make it green and dinosaur shaped.
Why fault something with being a copy? If it's a good design then there should be no problem. Should there?
