Norton Internet Security 2007

By Robert Vamosi on 23 January 2007

Norton Internet Security 2007 makes significant gains over last year, including cutting-edge rootkit and behavioral monitoring features found nowhere else, but the overall package could be serious overkill for the average desktop owner.

    • Bad: Install a nightmare for a 25 year veteran. And when it does not go well, they want $39.95 for a remote access instal

Cannot get it add-on pack to load after I reformat and reinstall of Win XP Pro with all Microsoft patches installed before I tried to install. Should install flawlessly on a virgin system.

    • Good: NONE
    • Bad: damn NIS

fwcfg.exe is taking up all my CPU, and i'm sick and tired of it.

    • Good: Was finally able to get help to fix the problem.
    • Bad: Was frustrated that I kept receiving the "trial ended" with the amount of money it cost.

Bought Norton 360 at Best Buy. Had to uninstall and re-install due to getting "trial had ended". Tried to use live chat to fix the problem and was 272 in line. Phone wait was 30 minutes at least. Tried all the suggestions the site said. The got on a live chat after being number 62 in line. Had to be switched to a tech. It was a slow process to fix but the tech was helpful and the problem seems fixed.

    • Good: -Above average user friendliness.
      -Attractive user interface.
      -Simple update processes.
    • Bad: -Slows system 5-30% depending on your PC speed.
      - Uses significant resources (HD, RAM, CPU)
      - Does fail and has been known to kill IE, net, mail or other functions without notice - hard to fix.
      - Symantec Support is ok, but often useless when uneasy problems arise.

NIS was pretty good a few years ago, 2002 era, but since has bloated to a mammoth, with more wool, but less teeth. I have dropped all Norton products due to this issue - they take up far more disk space, memory and system resources than they ought to for the service they provide. While NIS is generally more user friendly than many other firewall type tools, it is no better, and often worse in my opinion. After trying many options I moved to Kerio.

    • Good: Can't really tell what good it does.
    • Bad: Slow, slow, slooooow.

Norton Internet Security 2007 is worse than terrible. It brings the system to a halt ever since I installed it on my Windows system.

    • Good: Haven't had any virus problems.
    • Bad: Phishing toolbar is a pain.

the FWCFG.EXE problem is a disaster. I've kept Norton on my computer for many years, but I'm going to (try to) uninstall and never use again. There has to be a better product

    • Good: Zero
    • Bad: Zero

Don't Go for Norton after 2006 releases.
it will harm or effect to ur systems.
(No popup's and ads blocker and many more...)

    Choose other products like Zonealarm,k-lite,kaspersky,Panda,F-Secure......
it is good till latest updates for 2007.
And they give better performance and no memory problems.System will be in Full speed not just like Norton Strucking the System and late starting up the System.

    Plzzz...live comments....

    • Bad: install took forever and fwcfg.exe is taxing my CPU near 100% with only Outlook and one IE7 window open.

Installed Norton 360 around 4:21pm and its 11:27pm and I still cannot get my web pages to load. Everything has slowed down beyond my patience level. Going to get a refund for this software immediately.

    • Good: I love spending many many hours Using Nortons Removal Tool and Reinstalling. I live for such FUN.
    • Bad: They can NOT Fix it and it will happen to you and you won't be able to fix it either! I warned you Stay Away, this think is Nuclear Waste.

I have had 4 machines Independently have NIS Norton Internet Security stop working, 2007 NIS now twice this YEAR!

    • Good: Trojan.goldun virus not a Norton product defect by itself.
    • Bad: Norton Internet Security 2007 can detect the trojan.goldun virus but cannot delete it.

Virus causes Norton Liveupdate to generate a process fwcfg.exe to run at 100% locking up the pc

The virus causes problems on installation of Nortin IS2007.

Must either use another vendor's anti virus scan to delete the file or do a complete operating system restore.

RE: earlier posting for Gary on 5/06/2007 2:22am where FWCFG.EXE process kept cpu usage at 100% This seemed to be result of Norton Internet Security was unable to delete the TROJAN.GOLDUN virus from the pc. The virus in some way appears to have caused the problem with the Norton Internet security installation.

I had a test pc set up running a trial version of Microsoft's Live Oncare security program. I moved the infected drive to the test pc using a usb adapter and the ONECARE program found and deleted the virus.
