Optus 3G iPhone pricing announced
By Joseph Hanlon on 03 July 2008
update Optus will sell Apple's 8GB 3G iPhone for the outright price of AU$729 and AU$849 for the 16GB model, when purchased with Optus prepaid SIM cards.
The iPhone will also be available post-paid on the Optus network for $0 upfront for the 16GB iPhone 3G on an AU$79 capped plan over 24 months, with an included monthly data allowance of 700MB. A range of 12- and 24-month plans will also be available, with cheaper monthly caps attracting additional handset charges.
The cheapest option involves an AU$19 minimum monthly spend and handset repayments of AU$21 per month for the 8GB model. This plan includes AU$50 of calls and messages and a 100MB data allowance.
New and existing Optus prepaid customers will receive bonus mobile data allowances when recharging their prepaid plans, and customers purchasing an iPhone will receive a start-up bonus of AU$400 credit. All iPhone customers will receive free unlimited data usage for the first month when the iPhone is purchased before 31 August.
All iPhones purchased with a prepaid SIM will be network locked to Optus with an unlocking fee of AU$80 if applied for in the first six months after the original date of activation, or after AU$80 of prepaid credit has been purchased.

Warning about optus
I went on a business plan with Optus for 2 Iphones, an 8gb and a 16gb. So on the morning they were meant to be delivered I stayed at the office to wait for them to arrive, when the courier got there at 3pm he gave me the box all was well, it was a big box i naturally assumed that there were 2 phones in it. Wrong. Just one 8 gb phone. So after spending 20min on hold i got on to customer service and they transferred me to shipping. They told me there was a "Computer problem" and they would get there IT department to look in to it, this would take 3 days. 5 days later the currier came to the door again, so finally i had my second iphone, but no it was another 8Gb. Back on the phone, seems there was another computer error. We’ll send you the 16gb in 3 more days, which will probably mean a week, oh and if you wouldn't mind taking the 8gb to an Optus store in the mean time. Do you think this is grounds to cancel the contract? -

i would like to get an iphone, but there pricey! it was only about $300 to make the phone & their charging this much, but there's a 4GB but it's a few hundreds cheaper. The plans are just nasty payments, your better of paying it outright! For sure i'll be paying outright. In the long end, you won't be able to keep up with the payments, if you get a plan. If you can't afford it outright. I think optus would be best to go with, cheapest i've seen & better prepaid-plans.

So far all of the plans are overly expensive. The cheapest Optus option will cost $960 over 24 months and the cheapest option on Telstra costs a whopping $999! Although it is Telstra and it does cost more i prefer it because the telstra deal comes with free unlimited access to their massive wireless hotspot access (all over the city and in every maccas and starbucks). Now the saving begins :(. Please someone give me a better deal!!!!!
