If you look at the optus page regarding pricing http://www.optusiphone.com.au/getdoc/3727f208-955d-4c4a-ad38-b860c9b14e56/post-paid-pricing.aspx
The prices arent actually that bad. iPhone is available on cap plans from $19 and yes plans from the same, with monthly repayments added to the plan price. This is just the same as every other phone on the market. It's not unusual for a new phone to be free on a 79 cap, rather than a 49 for example. I am quite pleased with optus' pricing, more so than telstra anyway. -

If it sounds too good to be true ..... Seriously a $199 iPhone? That is cheaper than an iPod. Even at the real price demand will outstrip supply - why would Apple give them away for $199?

Re: "The iPhone will also be available post-paid on the Optus network for $0 upfront for the 16GB iPhone 3G on an AU$79 capped plan over 24 months, with an included monthly data allowance of 700MB"
Please note that the 16GB model will only be available for free on the $89 Cap - the $79 cap incurs a $2 per month handset fee over 24 months -

Yeah, $199 for an 8GB iPhone on a 24 month AT&T contract.
Many people failed to read that part and thought they were going to get a bargain iPhone.....Poor, misguided fools.
Somehow I couldn't have seen Apple suddenly dropping the prices of it's iTouchs to $250-400 dollars to match the prices of the 'cheaper' iPhone. -

But i thought Mr. Jobs said it was going to be $199???...he lied! :)
Only kidding! ...to all those who got their currency converters out and said it was going to be $229....Ha-haa!
...and those who complain about "only 1GB", that's HUGE for a mobile phone. It's not going to replace your home ADSL so you can download movies. It's for checking email and websites. Remember (as of today) Telstra charge $2 for 1MB.
Happy lining up next Friday, and here come the "I missed out, sold out, Apple sux" threads. -
