Optus plans to deliver the Cupcake update for Android over the air to customers owning an HTC Dream, after a period of internal testing.
An Optus spokesperson told CNET Australia that Optus will be receiving the update in the "coming weeks" and will then perform tests to ensure optimal performance for customers who own an HTC Dream on the Optus network.
"HTC Dream owners on the Optus network will automatically receive the upgrade over the air once testing is completed," the spokesperson said.
Cupcake is the codename given to version 1.5 of the Android operating platform. Google has previously outlined some of the enhancements users can expect in the update including a video recording and improvements to the Gmail client on the phone.
The Boy Genius Report has published speculation that T-Mobile in the US will push the update over the air to its customers starting on the 11th of May.

Just got off the phone to Optus. Thier Technical Support team has not been briefed on ANY mention of Android Update/Cupcake 1.5 being pushed. So this is all a heap of crock. I spoke to two different departments and they both said its probably not going to happen. And unfortunately the Optus G1's aren't easy to 'ROOT/Jailbreak' and manually update to Cupcake. It's just sooo annoying when Vodafone have the new Android phone with the update already running. Come on Optus, keep up with the competition.

What's taking so damn long to have that upgrade? Optus, you're such a damn tortoise.
HTC Magic has arrived Aus Market already. Everyone should go to Vodafone instead. -

YES YES YES.. I cannot wait. I hope Optus doesn't take forever to do this. If only their 3G network in Tassie could live up to the G1's capabilities.
