Optus iPhone price drop

For the first time since its Australian release, the iPhone will be available a little cheaper.
Details are scant at this stage, but it appears an 8GB iPhone will be available for free on a $49 per month contract, trimming the handset repayment costs from the plan by $7 per month on a 24-month contract, and $40 per month on a single year contract.
The price cut has been confirmed by a spokesperson at Optus, though details above other plans or options, like pricing for the 16GB version of the phone, were not available at this time.
The iPhone 3G was released in Australia in July 2008, and has held its launch pricing for nearly a full year. The price drop from Optus is in line with expectations that a new iPhone model is to be announced at the WWDC 2009 at the beginning of July.
