Photos: Mitsubishi's electric iMiEV

By Wayne Cunningham on 01 April 2008

During press days for the 2008 New York Auto Show, Mitsubishi drove its electric iMiEV up and down the hall. Why? Because it could. While petrol and diesel powered cars are prohibited from driving in the hall, the iMiEV was allowed to troll by the booths of its automotive competitors.

Mitsubishi iMiEV
Think of the Mitsubishi i as Japan's take on the Smart fortwo -- tall, short and with an engine out the back -- but with five doors instead of three. Now Mitsubishi have substituted electricity for petrol power to create the iMiEV. MiEV, incidentally, is an acronym for Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle.
