Poll: Apple Store coming to Brisbane, Perth; where to next?

By Derek Fung on 28 August 2009

According to job advertisements on Apple Australia's website, the company is planning on opening retail stores in Brisbane at the Chermside shopping centre and in Perth. After this, where should Australia's favourite fruity friend go?

Where should Australia's next Apple Store be?

Vote View Votes

We were hunting around the Apple Australia website — it was a quiet Thursday afternoon, OK? — and stumbled across a number of positions open for store managers, assistant store managers, concierges (can they get us a hot chocolate and some doughnuts while we wait to collect our broken iPhone?), genii (presumably either an IQ over 3000 or a completely irrational, bordering on religious, fervour for all things Apple is required for this role), inventory specialists, personal shopping specialists and specialists.

That in itself is not so surprising, because positions fall vacant from time to time. What's interesting is where many of these open and upcoming jobs are located: Perth, "West Australia" 6000; and Chermside, QLD 4032. The latter is about 10km from Brisbane's CBD and the Westfield there lays claim to being Australia's first shopping centre.

Naturally, there's no official word on these potential future Apple Stores. But it did lead us to ponder: where would you, our readers, like to see the next Apple Store located?

Please vote in our poll to the right or, should your preferred locale not be on that list, leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

I personally think it's great that Apple will be opening an Apple Retail Store in the Perth CBD, it's a misconception that Perth is an isolated town that can barely be called a city, Perth is a thriving city which has been predicted to develop into one of the top living cities in the next decade or so.

You seem to complain about cities such as Melbourne and Adelaide not having Apple Retail Stores, but don't forget that both Melbourne and Adelaide are a lot closer to Sydney than Perth is. Technically, if you wanted to go to an Apple Retail Store, you would have to travel far less than someone from Perth would have to.

The demand for Apple products has never been high in Perth, it's the right time to open an Apple Retail Store in Perth, business will boom, hopefully meaning that more stores will open in Perth, to serve both north and south of the river.

Sydney already has too many stores, although it's seen as the capital of Australia somewhat, it's popularity is declining steadily.

How about Melbourne? Apple is wasted in cities like Brisbane and Perth, since only about 5 people live there.

Hate to break the stereotype that Perth is some sort of backwater thats years behind, but there was already an Apple store open for a couple of years. It closed down late last year so I don't know what they would do different this time around.

Adelaide for the win! I mean, we always get chump'd for everything. Adelaide has a very strong Mac following and huge support, since we have heaps of uni and arty people who are all Mac users, it would be far better for Adelaide-ians to get support in their state!
