PSP Go price halved, 10 free games thrown in

It's taken a year, but Sony has addressed the main criticism we had of the PSP Go: its price. Santa Claus had wielded his price hatchet, cutting the asking rate by almost half from AU$450 down to AU$250.

When we reviewed the Go last year, we found much to like about the design (pocket-friendly form factor, good looks, game pausing and so forth), but our jaws still hurt from the sticker shock.

The new retail price takes effect from 1 November 2010. On top of the newly competitive pricing, PSP Go buyers will be able to download 10 free games of Sony's choosing from the PlayStation Store:

  • Assassins Creed: Bloodlines
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
  • Gran Turismo
  • Avatar: The Game
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • MotorStorm Arctic Edge
  • Need for Speed: Shift
  • Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice
  • FIFA World Cup South Africa
  • Wipeout Pure

The free game offer lasts until 31 January 2011 and is available to all PSP Go owners who have activated their devices on the PlayStation Network after 1 April 2010.

If you qualify for the free games, use your PSP Go to download the PSP Go Promotion Theme and receive your free download codes.

I'b buy one... If there were actually games available for it!

An owner of every "traditional" PSP (PlayStation Portable) to date, I was GOING to upgrade my current device, buy the wife AND son a PSP Go for christmas... Until I discovered that a LLOONNGG list of games is not available for the PSP Go!

Despite promises that "all new games will be available for the PSP Go", most games are still released on UMD (universal media disk) only, including many "key" games (such as Kingdom Hearts)!

Great price, but completely pointless if you cannot purchase the latest games...

if i wasn't currently unemployed, i'd grab one of these, especially for the $199 they're currently going for on graysonline.com.au

and as for the games, i'd love it for LBP, GTA, Motorstorm, NFS Shift etc. but then i'd also be getting FF7, FF8 and a bunch of other PS1 games.

It would be better if they gave some decent games away, personally I would'nt want any of those free or not.

Hey, I find Gran turismo excellent, and little big planet is pretty cool too, but you do have a point with games like avatar...
