Reading is fun with the Sony Reader

CES 2006: Sony unveiled its new e-book reader at CES, and it's a page-turner.

The Sony Reader boasts a large 6-inch display that features electronic paper technology called E Ink, which mimics an actual page of a book. Unlike CRT and LCD technology, E Ink microcapsules appear as either black or white, depending on a positive or a negative charge determined by the content. We saw it firsthand, and we have to say, it's pretty amazing. The text was easy to read at any angle, but more impressive was checking out comic books on the device -- awesome.

The Sony Reader is lightweight and fairly compact (6.9 by 4.9 by 5.8 inches), so traveling with the device, whether you're going on a long trip or just commuting to the office, will be a breeze. Plus, the Reader holds up to 80 average-size books at a time, and if you're an avid reader, there's an optional Memory Stick storage media or SD card slot (yes, SD) for more. You can purchase titles from Sony's Connect store. The Reader isn't limited to books either; you can view PDFs, JPEGs, personal documents, blogs, and newsfeeds, and it even plays audio files.
