Upside
Aussie company Advanced Automation has launched a set of speakers housed in genuine electric guitar bodies. Using Pioneer car stereo speakers that are thin enough to fit in the bodies without alteration, the Shadow speakers are available in three configurations - Dual Cone 4in 100W, 2-way 4in 100W, or 2-way 6in 160W.
They come supplied as a pair with stands and you have your choice of four available colours: red, blue, black and grey. There are also two special edition wooden guitar models offered in either Tobacco Sunburst or Natural as well as a Natural wood acoustic guitar fitted with a 2 way 6in 260W speaker.
To round out the system, there is an 8in 80W subwoofer fitted in a drum case. The drum sub comes with its own built-in amp and its omni-directional design allows for flexible positioning.
Note: For the petrol heads, Reis has an actual chrome muffler that sports a 3-way 6x9in 350W speaker.
Downside
The biggest danger with these speakers is that some drunken reveller will try to pick one up and strum it. While made from the real McCoy, they are designed to be a decorative speaker only and should not be used as an instrument.
Outlook
There may be higher quality speakers around from a technical standpoint, but this Reis set-up wins the fun stakes. Perfect for the rumpus, billiards or music rooms.
