One of the headline features of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 could be headed to the popular Galaxy S3 (GS3) smartphone, too.

"Multiview" is Samsung's name for the multitasking feature, first introduced on the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, which lets users have two applications open at the same time. There are some restrictions to how this works, but you can, for example, have your email open in one panel and the web browser open in the other.

According to Samsung software blog SamMobile, the Korean electronics powerhouse is working on a new firmware build for the GS3 that will introduce Multiview along with a number of other new features and enhancements. The update is based on Android 4.1.2, and will also include another Note 2 feature called Smart Rotation, which attempts to set the screen rotation using the phone's front-facing camera to detect the position of your eyes, rather than the accelerometer inside the phone.

The blog has also posted the test build online for knowledgeable users to download and install. Of course, this process will require you to root your phone and will void your warranty, so you'll want to make sure that you understand what you are doing before you begin.

How to do this update when my Samsung Galaxy S3 is from Korea?
How do I update it when I have downloaded the file? Please kindly instruct me on how to do it and thanks!

You could wait for the update it will roll out to your phone in time.

If you don't know what your doing i wouldn't recommened forcing the update, it'll void your warranty and it's very much possible that you can brick your phone.

Is the galaxy note 2 out in any telcos yet?

Not yet. We're expecting it to be in stores at the very beginning of December, but we don't have an official date from Samsung yet.

Sure is. Shows up on a few websites anyway.

Virginmobile (pre-order from 22 nov only):

No signs of it on Telstra or Vodaphone websites as far as I could see. May have missed it though.

Side question: Will Cnet Aus be doing a full review of the Galaxy Note 2 LTE version any time soon? I'm umming and ahhing over purchasing one but I like to read your reviews before pulling the trigger on tech.

Edit: probably should clarify that both the links above are for pre-order only - shows they will be stocking it at least.

Yeah, we know that the Note 2 is coming to all the major telcos, and will be LTE on Telstra and Optus. We'll be aiming to have a review live ASAP, as soon as Samsung make the Australian stock available for us to see.
